The Ballad of Treagearn
Once in a time long past,
in a land of trees and flowers
a young man trudged up through the grass
whiling away his idle hours.
When to his sight did come a troll
slurping and smacking his mighty maw
as he lumbered round the knoll,
fingers hooked into his jaw.
The young man, Treagearn was his name,
did step aback,
caution getting the better part of fame
as he prepared to meet the troll's attack.
'Slobber-smack!' the troll decried
Oh, what a horrid beaste!
With his mouth opened full wide
The troll prepared to feast!
"Quake and quiver!"
Cried the troll
"I'll eat your liver!
and feast upon your soul!"
At these words Tregearn did quail
his knees began to buckle
he felt his strong courage fail
standing there amongst the honey-suckle.
Both milkweed cotton,
and mig-weed blossom,
reminding him of things forgotten
of sword and spear, and playing possum
"What ho?" the troll exclaimed
"This man has gone to swoon,
and that without knowing My name
of Braccia Glirril Brigadoon!"
"tis no matter" the troll did muse
shuffling closer to his dinner
"Awake, asleep, a meal I'll not refuse
though it makes me seem a poorish winner"
Clack! Clack! went the troll's jaws!
Snap! Crack! went Treagearn's bones
rending and tearing with mighty paws
as blood and gore dripped upon the stones
Heh heh heh.
